Lake Lure is a popular vacation destination for thousands of visitors each year from around this country, Canada, and abroad. The actual town of Lake Lure encompasses 13.25 square miles including the lake, was incorporated in 1927 and is now home to 1,050 permanent residents.
Fall is especially beautiful when the mountains are in full blazing color and give the lake a breathtaking backdrop.
The lake consists of a large central body of deep water with three long bays extending out and several small inlets.
Multi-million dollar homes decorate the lake; some are viewable by a road that winds around the lake; others are more secluded and only viewable from the lake.
There are several restaurants and marinas on the lake and boats can be rented by the hour, allowing visitors spectacular views of the lake and surrounding homes.
There is a dinner cruise and a sightseeing cruise offered by Lake Lure marina.
There is a boardwalk that starts at the Lake Lure Marina and ends at the beach area, in front of Lake Lure Inn and Spa.
The climate is unusually temperate since it lies in the “thermal belt” of the western North Carolina mountains and foothills.
The lake itself encompasses 720 acres with a pristine white beach in the town of Lake Lure that is open to the public.
Lake Lure is fed from the Rocky Broad River which winds its way through a series of rapids down through Hickory Nut Gorge.
National Geographic states Lake Lure one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the world.
Lake Lure has been the backdrop for several films including:
Last of the Mohicans
